- Over the decade from 1999-2000 to 2009-10, dollar increases in average public four-year tuition and fees ranged from $2,180 (in 2009 dollars) in the Middle States region to $3,349 in New England. Percentage increases ranged from 37% in the Middle States region to 93% in the Southwest.
- In 2009-10, the highest average public four-year tuition and fees were in New England, which also had the highest average total charges, including room and board. The South had the lowest average public four-year tuition and fees, and also the lowest average total charges.
- In addition to regional differences, there are also differences by state in published tuition and fees.
