So now provide some concrete solutions that we can apply NOW! TODAY! to create the change we want to see in education. The factory line education system is broken and backwards. Let us now focus on concrete solutions that we can use to contribute to valid, individualized learning that recognizes the innate differences in talents, learning styles, skills and interests of each person. The solutions are here now! Just open your mind to the possibilities and look!redefine what it is to be educated.

I was interested in the ADD part. Then I got distracted trying to think of 200 ways to use a paper clip. I didn’t know it could be a modified in size! I used a giant paper clip to eat my cereal this morning. Then I was really late for work and was fired. But I’m okay with that cuz I now I’m real smart

I thought it an interesting and enlightening animation.
Some comments on ADD from others. My thoughts were (regardless of cause or treatment) why is it all diagnosed on one side of the country? The human brain (provided it is fully formed) is basically the same form one person to the next. So ADD should be equal everywhere more or less.
In case anyone wondered the RSA stands for Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. I guess the RSEAMC didn’t sound as good.

This is incredibly true. As a young person in the current education system, I believe I’m currently striving for qualifications, not knowledge. In a climate where we teach to test instead of testing to teach, extra knowledge of literature or philosophy doesn’t get you praise, you’re just told to stay on the assigned topic. I spend my days bored out of my skull.

This is utter bilge. The last thing children today need is to be encouraged to be more self-absorbed, over-confident and contemptuous of reality than they already are. Insight, I’m afraid, has to be based on information and ability to process it and do something meaningful with it. Both require study and training and, yes, that is boring, especially at first.
Just because our current learning models were created during the Enlightenment, doesn’t mean they are wrong or deficient.

Considering he blames ADHD on over-stimulus when it’s a disorder caused by under-stimulus and treated with stimulants, I’d say ignore that part of the video. He is right that our view of intelligence and how we structure schools are broken though.

Thumbs up for Professor Death Star.

Beautifully done! As an aspiring teacher I hope that I can remember Ken Robinson as I teach my future classes.

Great job! These are the kind of video’s that make YouTube, the internet and the world great!

All that for a fucking iPhone commercial at 11:20….nice job! XD

@repose1983 He’s not mocking him. Animations like this one are often done to help communicate the message of the talk, and it’s really expensive to have them do it. It’s a serious presentation aid, not a random jab at the content of the talk

” WE DON’T NEED NO EDUCATION.
WE DON’T NEED NO THOUGHT CONTROL
NO DARK SARCASM IN THE CLASSROOM
HEY…..TEACHER LEAVE THOSE KIDS ALONE
ALL IN ALL YOUR JUST A NOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL”

We are home educating our children.
This video confirms everything we feel.
Teaching children to share with each other and care for each other is our 1st aim.
Intellectual matters come after this.
Happy children are bright children.

My world history teacher showed me this like a month ago :3
This guy is brilliant :] learned so much.

@Cybertoco: I agree with you. It would be delusional to assume that students can master their lives from what they have learned in the classroom, hence the shift from content to process-skills. Best Regards! Joana

@Cybertoco I envy you for being so optimistic about this. There is still faith but I believe things will only change when this country’s system falls apart, but even then we don’t know if it be for better or for the worse.

@jonakompa Which one of us is ever educated to absolution against an uncertain future? Which one of us is not insecure in nature?
November 24, 2011 at 7:19 pm
@MrGekiryuu101 …or become a large consensus, then there has been change!
November 24, 2011 at 7:47 pm
@MrGekiryuu101 Of course it will! If there has been changes in people’s way of thinking, or if there has even sprouted a bit of autonomic thinking about a new subject (or an old one revisited), then this is surely to change to some extent the attitude of the person about that matter, or be more willing to discuss it and offer argument about it. With discussion, there occurs selection of ideas (much like natural selection, I believe). If new, selected ideas become the theme of a project or become
